Detroit Lions sign DE Eric Lee in time for Cowboys game

ARLINGTON, Texas — With Ezekiel Ansah still banged up, the Detroit Lions have promoted defensive end Eric Lee from the practice squad. He is with the team in Dallas and could suit up for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
Andrew Donnal, an offensive lineman who never played in a game for Detroit, was cut in the corresponding move.
Lee spent last season in New England after going undrafted out of South Florida. He finished with 19 tackles and 3.5 sacks in six games for the Patriots. He was cut loose earlier this month, at which point the Lions signed him to the practice squad.
Detroit has been short handed at defensive end in recent weeks, with Ansah unable to play since the opener because of a shoulder injury. He’s already been ruled out against Dallas.
Romeo Okwara is expected to earn another start in Ansah’s place. He’s shouldered a large workload in recent weeks, including playing 40 of a possible 48 defensive snaps last week against New England, when he was the only pure defensive end dressed for the game. Now, Lee could help provide some reinforcements.
