“Game of Thrones” walked away with the Emmy for the best Outstanding Drama Series Monday night, and it proved to me that there is still a little sanity left in Hollywood.
Winter is here. #GameofThrones has won “Outstanding Drama Series” at this year’s #Emmys . pic.twitter.com/iyq4xSPpG8

For those who might have forgotten, Hulu’s trash show “The Handmaid’s Tale” had been favored to win this category. If that had actually happened, it would have signaled to me that Hollywood had completely fallen off of the rocker. (RELATED: THE SHOW FAVORED TO WIN THE EMMY FOR OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE)
“The Handmaid’s Tale” is nothing compared to “Game of Thrones” or “Westworld.” The latter two shows were the only realistic options to win Outstanding Drama Series. Nothing else even came close, in my mind.
Bend the knee. #GameofThrones has won 9 #Emmys this year continuing its reign with more #Emmys than any other scripted series. pic.twitter.com/enc1sn5vhC

There are plenty of reasons to criticize award shows. They are often disconnected from reality and nothing but people preaching from soap boxes. However, if we’re going to criticize, then we have to be willing to tip our caps as well. My job is to call balls and strikes. It’s not to just blindly attack the Emmys.
I’m sure there were plenty of people pushing for “The Handmaid’s Tale.” I’m glad sanity and reason won out. “Game of Thrones” is a drama that has crossover appeal to fans of just about all genres. It’s done something no other show has ever accomplished, and it was one of two clear choices.
It looks like Hollywood finally got something correct.
