Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a letter to Kavanaugh accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford Monday, assuring her that “I am committed to fair and respectful treatment of you” during her Thursday testimony before the committee.
The letter thanks Ford for her willingness to testify, then went into detail about how Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein or her lawyer should have shared her letter with him.
“I should have been given your letter July 30 letter at the time your letter was sent,” Grassley wrote, saying that the committee would have considered it in the proceeding hearings.
Feinstein sat on the letter for months and never brought the allegations up in hours of hearings in early September, citing Blasey Ford’s desire for anonymity, which changed after news of the letter leaked to the press. “Both of you deserve a credible and fair process,” the Grassley letter concluded.
In an earlier letter, Ford wrote, “While I am frightened, please know, my fear will not hold me back from testifying and you will be provided with answers to all of your questions. I ask for fair and respectful treatment.”
