Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta paid a visit to the Chicago branch of the nation’s largest police union on Monday to celebrate Labor Day.
Acosta shared that he was visiting the National Fraternal Order of Police in Chicago, thanking the group on Twitter for extending an invitation.
«Our nation’s brave members of law enforcement work on the front lines each day to protect Americans,» he wrote.
Acosta touted President Trump ‘s policies in a number of Labor Day tweets on Monday, arguing that they have benefitted American workers.
The Labor secretary wrote that Trump’s policies are helping job-creators «invest in their workers» and argued that Trump has created opportunities by «expanding job-driven education.»
Acosta’s tweets came after Trump earlier in the day ripped AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, the head of the nation’s largest federation of labor unions, writing on Twitter that it «is easy to see why unions are doing so poorly.»
Trump’s tweet was in response to comments Trumka made Sunday while appearing on «Fox News Sunday,» when he said that Trump has done more to hurt workers than help them .
“He hasn’t come up with an infrastructure program that could put a lot of us back to work,” Trumka said. “He overturned a regulation that would deny over 5 million overtime that they would’ve had. He overturned some health and safety regulations that will hurt us on the job.”
