Robert Redford wants to take back his retirement statement.
“I think it was a mistake to say that I was retiring because you never know,” the actor told People at the premiere of his new film, “The Old Man & the Gun.”
“It did feel like it was time maybe, to concentrate on another category,” he added. “I shouldn’t have said that because it draws attention away from the film.”
Redford, 82, announced in August that he was retiring from acting, saying, “Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting.”
The actor said he’s been in the industry since he was 21 concluding, “Why not go out with something that’s very upbeat and positive?”
He later attempted to clarify his statements saying, “I don’t know if [‘Old Man& the Gun’] is the last one… I can’t last forever.”
“Old Man & the Gun” hits theaters on September 28.
