Here’s the full lineup of new video games coming to the Xbox One between September 10-14,2018.
The return of Lara Croft in Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the week’s big Xbox One release. Developed by Eidos Montréal, the game concludes the arc that started in Crystal Dynamics’ 2013 franchise reboot. Based on what we’ve played and heard, the trilogy is ending on a high.
Also coming to the Xbox One is Super Street: The Game, the official game of the Super Street custom car network. It’s joined by the latest game in EA’s popular ice hockey series, NHL 19. This year’s iteration introduces a new physics-based collision system among various other improvements.
Also worth a look is Gonner, the marvellous – and tricky – procedurally-generated 2D platformer from Art in Heart.
All of this week’s releases are available directly from the Xbox digital games store, or via the Microsoft web store. Here’s the full release lineup.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider leads this week’s lineup of new PlayStation Store releases for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
This week sees the return of Lara Croft in Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, the third game in the rebooted action adventure series from Square Enix.
Eidos Montréal are on development duties this time, and have evolved the work of Crystal Dynamics into something that looks rather special. It’s not original – the influence of Apocalypse Now looms particularly large – but it looks like being another memorable adventure for the video game icon.
Another returning franchise can be found in V-Rally 4, a new arcade racer from Kylotonn and Big Ben Interactive. The series has been dormant since 2002, and based on the game’s critical reception it maybe should have remained so. Another of this week’s releases – Super Street: The Game – might be a better option.
Other games coming to the PlayStation Store include the standard edition of NBA 2K19, EA Sports’ NHL 19, and co-op action game, Claws of Furry. Here’s the full lineup.

Put on your warmest gear and get ready to hike to your local games retailer; a retail version of The Long Dark is now available.
The Long Dark, the dastardly survival game that skated to the top of our best winter video games list, has been available in some form or another for several years now. First, came the obligatory Steam Early Access release, a must for survival games to tweak their mechanics (and build a dedicated following). Console versions followed, including some time on Xbox Game Preview, Microsoft’s equivalent of Early Access.
In 2017, The Long Dark finally trudged out of the deep snow of Early Access and into a full release, and with it, came the first two episodes of its story mode. The game had previously only been playable in sandbox and challenge formats, but the addition of a singleplayer campaign wove new dimensions into a familiar landscape.
And now, perhaps something of a reward for years of hard work from Raph van Lierop and the team at Hinterland Games, there’s a retail version of The Long Dark on shelves worldwide.
Published by Skybound (Robert Kirkman’s production company) the retail version of The Long Dark features all of the stuff in the digital edition – including access to subsequent story episodes, when they release – plus a code to download the game’s original soundtrack. The boxed edition also includes a limited edition field journal, described as follows in the press release:
Used by an unnamed survivor on Great Bear Island, this naturalist’s Field Journal includes a map of the Island, as well as plenty of room to log your day’s activities – the perfect companion for any survivor of the Quiet Apocalypse!
The retail version of The Long Dark hit shelves (and online retail) in North America on September 4th, 2018. Now, on September 7th, it’s available worldwide; well, in selected countries and from selected retailers, in any case.
