These five deals are frighteningly good.
Steam’s annual Halloween Sale is here once again, running just until 1 PM EST on November 1 before these great deals disappear. Steam sales are a cornerstone of the PC gaming experience, and these killer deals stand out from the rest.
Prey (2017): $14.99/50% off
Prey is a science fiction thriller that was met with high praise from both fans and critics alike. Players explore an abandoned space station invaded by alien monsters as they look for clues that explain the ship’s demise. This single-player epic is everything that a great campaign should be: unique, gripping, and fraught with challenging enemies that transform the game’s setting into a deadly battlefield.
It feels a bit like a futuristic BioShock, too. Players gain Neuromods as they progress through the game, which are unique abilities for combat, stealth, etc. These play quite a bit like BioShock’ s Plasmids, and players can choose which abilities best fit their style of play.
At $15.00, Prey is a steal for anyone interested in excellent single-player titles.
The Forest’s AI enemies are incredibly well-designed The Forest
The Forest $13.39/33% off
The Forest is by far my favorite title from the wave of Steam Early Access survival games. Now fully released and well-polished, the game begins with your plane crashing on a deserted island, and quickly picks up from there. As players learn to craft what they need to survive, they’ll begin to discover that all is not what it seems on the island. Without giving too much away, The Forest has some of the most truly frightening AI in any game I’ve played, especially in a survival horror title.
While the discount isn’t as high as the other games on my list, this is the lowest price that we’ve seen The Forest since it’s release earlier this year.
Soma: $5.99/80% off
Soma is a stunning work of psychological horror from the same dastardly minds that created Amnesia: The Dark Descent, who describe it themselves as «an unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human.» Much like in Amnesia, players are entirely defenseless as they explore an abandoned underwater facility, solving puzzles, hiding from monsters, and uncovering the secrets of the station’s demise.
It’s also important to note that if you have Twitch Prime, you can get Soma for free. Simply click the «Prime Loot» crown icon to the right of the search bar, and press «claim offer» under Soma. It’s also included in the Humble Trove, if you’re currently subscribed to Humble Bundle Monthly. If you don’t have either, $5.99 for such a well-crafted game is a great deal.
Alien: Isolation SEGA/
Alien: Isolation $9.99/75% off
In Alien: Isolation, players will have to do whatever they can to outrun an aggressive, all-powerful alien that’s persistently hunting them down. It currently boats «Very Positive» reviews on Steam, and players have left countless reviews hailing the game’s atmosphere, sound design, and overall quality of the game.
The alien’s unwavering attempts to hunt and kill make for some incredibly tense moments as players desperately try to escape the tight, claustrophobic corridors of a spaceship. Gamers, especially those who are fans of the Ailen franchise, should consider giving Alien: Isolation a shot for such a great price.
Rocket League $11.99/40% off
Ok… I’ll concede that Rocket League isn’t a horror game. However, it is my favorite game of all time, and there are some pretty spooky cosmetics added with the ongoing Haunted Hallows event. For those unaware, Rocket League is essentially soccer with rocket-powered RC cars. The beauty of Rocket League is that despite it’s near-limitless skill ceiling, it’s fun no matter how good you are. I’ve played this game for countless hours, and for only $11.99 it’s worth picking up to give it a shot with your friends. All of Rocket League’s DLC is currently 40% off, too.
