Recently, billionaire Elon Musk – the business magnate behind companies such as SpaceX and Tesla – joked about purchasing and deleting the popular battle royale game Fortnite. A fake headline stating just that was circulated, also claiming that Musk did so to save “these kids from eternal virginity.” The hilarity ensued when Musk himself shared and responded to the article by stating “had to be done ur welcome.”
Of course, it was all done in good faith, as Elon Musk is a big supporter of the gaming industry, which is likely why the official Fortnite Twitter felt comfortable responding in kind. Sharing an article where Elon Musk predicted when he could build a base on Mars in the next decade or so, Fortnite added the phrase “Just Build, LOL.”
For the unitiated, “Just Build, LOL” is a phrase meant to troll players who can’t build well in the battle royale game. It originated when the game added the Port-a-Fort but still comes up from time to time.
Nevertheless, Elon Musk apparently couldn’t resist the banter, as he indeed responded to the tweet. In fact, he stated, “Reality is hard.” Check out the Twitter interaction below:
Fans of the battle royale game are likely enjoying this good laugh and banter between the two figures, but it’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the only gaming-related interaction with the billionaire’s Twitter account. In fact, a conversation between Musk and Gearbox Software’s CEO Randy Pitchford revealed that a sentient flamethrower could be a thing in the highly-anticipated Borderlands 3.
It remains to be seen if this banter has any similar effect, but it wouldn’t be beyond the company. Seemingly, many would likely love an Elon Musk-inspired skin or even a “reality is hard” emote. Of course, that’s up to Epic Games, but in the meantime, players have plenty to keep them busy such as the newly introduced in-game tournaments.
Fortnite is available now in early access for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
