Nintendo and The Pokemon Company decide to officially reveal the evolution details for the Pokemon franchise’s new mythical Steel-type creature, Meltan.
About a month ago, Pokemon GO trainers started spotting a new creature that had never been seen before, with Nintendo eventually confirming that it was a Ditto disguised as a never before seen mythical creature called Meltan. Now, it looks as if the Big N is prepared to let players in on what the mysterious Pocket Monster’s going to be like when it evolves into its hulking form called Melmetal.
As indicated by the handful of images below, Melmetal is a much bigger Pokemon than Meltan due to it growing vastly stronger than before, and with its body hardening as a result of its evolution, it makes the Steel-type incredibly sturdy. What’s more is that since its body is made of liquid metal, Melmetal’s arms in particular are very flexible, letting the Pokemon whip its fists forward to deliver potent punches.
According to Nintendo, Melmetal has a unique Steel-type physical move called Double Iron Bash that lets the creature use the hex nut in its chest like an axle to spin its arms around and dish out an extremely powerful double strike to opponents. As a matter of fact, the weight of hex nuts on its arms combined with the spinning attack is so strong that it has the potential to make the intended target flinch, rendering an opposing Pokemon unable to attack for one turn.
In order to evolve Meltan in to Melmetal, Pokemon fans will only be able to do so through Pokemon GO, and players will need to have 400 Meltan Candies to do it. Similar to how collecting Candies for other Pokemon works, players will be able to get Meltan Candies by completing activities such as catching Meltan, sending it to Professor Willow, or having Meltan travel around as one’s Buddy Pokemon. Players will also receive Meltan Candies when transferring the creature from Pokemon GO into Pokemon Let’s Go.
Those looking forward to catching Meltan should be pleased to know that new Special Research quests will be coming to Pokemon GO at some point this winter, letting players strike out on a search for the Mythical Pokemon. Hopefully, Meltan makes its way into the mobile augmented reality game before trainers have to go searching for it during the coldest days of the season.
Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS devices.
