The Walking Dead: The Final Season of Telltale isn’t dead just yet, as The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman’s development studio has picked up the title to continue the final season.
It may be the end of Telltale as a studio, but the final season of its Walking Dead series doesn’t look like it will go unfinished. In a new announcement, it was revealed that Skybound Entertainment will be taking over the duties of finishing and releasing the rest of the title’s episodes. For those unaware, Skybound is the company of The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman.
As reported by Variety, Kirkman gave away more details of The Final Season’ s move at the New York Comic-Con, beginning by saying that his company had «successfully negotiated with Telltale Games» for it to «come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion.»
Moreover, the almost 300 employees that were laid off by Telltale as it prepared to close its doors forever may have some good news coming their way as well. Although nothing has been finalized just yet, Kirkman will be pushing to bring back the original developers to continue their work on the final episodes.
It’s unclear if Kirkman plans to continue the game series through his own studio in the future or if this will be a one time venture to complete Clementine’s story. As The Walking Dead: The Final Season was pulled from stores last week, we also have no time frame as to when will it be purchasable again, or if will we see a completely new listing come out without Telltale’s name attached to it.
However, since the new studio is still working out the details and bringing developers in, fans may have to wait a while before they see the two remaining episodes start churning out.
