A bride and groom driving to their wedding in Pittsburgh were killed in a fiery crash when a tractor-trailer rammed into them, according to a report.
Kathryn Schurtz, 35, and her fiance Joseph Kearney, 42, were driving on I-78 in Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon when a semi hit them from behind, pushing them into another tractor-trailer and triggering a chain-reaction crash that set their car ablaze, Lehigh Valley Live reported .
“They were truly the brightest shining lights snuffed out way too soon,” posted Mary Kay Heinle, who identified herself as the groom’s aunt.
The bride, who was born and raised in New Jersey, was the daughter of former Farmwood Councilwoman Karen Schurtz. She worked for Oracle Data Cloud at their Midtown offices and lived with Kearney in Jersey City.
“She will be remembered for her voracious appetite for reading, love of cooking and trailblazing new adventures with Joseph,” the family wrote in her obituary .
She’s survived by her parents, sister and brother-in-law and her 3-month-old nephew.
Services for Schurtz are scheduled this week at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scotch Plains. Further information for Kearney wasn’t immediately available.
