Are you on the lookout for a particular horse breed or coat in Red Dead Redemption 2? Here’s all of the Red Dead Redemption 2 horse locations in the game.
Like its predecessor, there are a number of Red Dead Redemption 2 horse locations that you need to know about. Unlike Red Dead Redemption, however, each breed is unique in its appearance and habitat. There are 19 different breeds, so where’s the best place to find each one to add to your collection? Here’s the lowdown on where to find the fastest horses and legendary horses in Red Dead 2.
There are four wild habitats for this breed, and the best way to find them – and any of the other wild horses across the game – is using this map. The furthest North location is found in Ambarino, near to Bacchus Station. The other three are located in New Austin – South-West of Tumbleweed, North-East next to Lake Don Julio, and South of Thieves’ Landing.
There is a third option to locate this breed which is included in the Legendary Horses section, while the Grey Overo can be bought at Tumbleweed stable after Epilogue One.
The American Standardbred appears in four wild places. They can be found to the North of Cumberland Forest – before you hit the Dakota River – as well as North-East from Big Valley. You’ll want to stick near to the river here to locate them. Finally, there are two places in New Austin – next to Lake Don Julio and near to Mercer Station.
The Palomino Dapple and Silver Tail Buckskin coats can be purchased at Valentine stable and Tumbleweed stable in Chapter Two and Epilogue One respectively too.
The Appaloosa breed has four wild habitats. The one in New Austin is found right next to Ridgewood Farm, while three are found further North. Two are located in Ambarino – around Cotorra Springs and Cattail Pond – while the other is found North-West of Big Valley in West Elizabeth.
The Leopard and Brown Leopard coats can be found at Van Hor stable in Chapter Six, and Tumbleweed stable in Epilogue One too.
You can find the Andalusian breed at two stable locations. The first is at Strawberry Stable, which is located in the town of Valentine. You can only get the Dark Bay coat here. The second is found in Van Hor Stable, which you can access in Chapter Six, and is home to the Rose Grey coat.
The Arabian breed is possibly the best horse breed in the whole game. With superb stamina, health, speed, and acceleration, you’ll want to get your hands on one of these. You can acquire the black coat at the Saint Denis stables from Chapter Four onwards, while the Rose Grey Bay is available at Blackwater stable in Epilogue One.
The legendary white coat, meanwhile, is the only one of three found in the wild. You can find out its location further down this list.
The Ardennes breed is found in two stable locations – at Scarlett Meadows stable in Chapter Two, and the Van Hor Stable in Chapter Six. You’ll have to stump up cash to get each coat though.
The Belgian breed is another type that can be found trotting around the map as horses owned by NPCs. They’ll usually be hauling wagons or carts to get people and cargo to and from different towns. The only presumable way to get them, then, is by stealing them.
The Dutch Warmblood breed is only available at three stables. The Chocolate Roan coat can be bought at Valentine Stable, the Seal Brown at Strawberry Stable from Chapter Three onwards, and the Sooty Buckskin at Scarlett Meadows in Chapter Four.
There are only two wild Hungarian Half-Bred locations in the game. One is to the North-West of Blackwater by the river that flows into Flat Iron Lake, while the other is situated in Cholla Springs near to the American Thoroughbred habitat. You can, however, buy the Dapple Dark Grey coat at Valentine Stable.
By far the most populous horse breed in the game, there are 12 locations that you can find the Kentucky Saddler breed. Their habitats are scattered across the entire map, with three in New Austin, three in West Elizabeth, three in Ambarino, one in New Hannover, and two in Lemoyne. Use the linked map above to find out where they are exactly.
The Missouri Fox Trotter is located at two different stables. The Amber Champagne coat is found at Scarlett Meadows, while the Silver Dapple Pinto coat is in Blackwater stable from Epilogue One. Their base speed rank of seven make them among the fastest horses in the game too.
The Morgan breed can be found in 10 locations, so check the map above for exactly where. There are five in New Austin alone, with the other habitats found South of Blackwater, near the estuary to the South of Riggs Station, next to the American Standardbred habitat by Big Valley, and two places in Cumberland Forest. The Bay coat can also be purchased at Valentine stable.
There are four wild habitats for this breed. One is in the Heartlands in New Hannover – near to where you can find the Tennessee Walker breed – and the other three are in New Austin. One is North of Rio Bravo, one is found in Henigan’s Stead, and the last one is along the most Northerly path traveling away from Armadillo.
There are six places to find the Nokota breed. Two locations are where you can find the Morgan breed in Cumberland Forest and South of Riggs station, while the other four are found in New Austin. Again, check the map above to see exactly where.
If you can find one with a Reverse Dapple Roan coat too, you’ll have the joint fastest horse in the game.
The Shire breed can be found hauling cargo across the map. The Raven Black coat is only available after you complete the “Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego” mission in Chapter Two, while the other two coats will need to be stolen from other owners to get them.
The two coats for the Suffolk Punch breed are found throughout the map. Like the other draft horse breeds in the game, these are usually carrying people or goods to different areas, so your best bet is to rob one and make it your own. Once you’ve got rid of your wanted level, that is.
Seven habitats are present for the Tennessee Walker breed. Three are found in New Austin, one in West Elizabeth, two in New Hannover, and one in Ambarino. Again, the map above will give the best indication of these places.
This breed can be found in three locations. The first is in New Hannover in the Heartlands. You’ll want to head South-West of Emerald Ranch, into the plains, before you reach the main track that is located in this area.
The other two locales are in New Austin. The first can be found in Hennigan’s Stead before you reach the path that runs along the San Luis River, and the second is located in Cholla Springs around the paths that break off to Jorge’s Gap, Armadillo, and Ridgewood Farm.
