A U. S. soldier has been killed in Afghanistan—bringing the total number of U. S. military personnel to die in the country this year in combat to eight.
The soldier’s death was announced Saturday in a press release by Sgt. 1st Class Debra Richardson, a spokeswoman for Resolute Support.

The identity of the soldier killed was not revealed, pending notification of next of kin.
In a separate incident, two Afghan soldiers were killed and two injured when a helicopter crashed in Kandahar Province, reported the Associated Press.
