WhatsApp has several things going within its platform. The chat app is busy updating its sticker packs feature, it has added Google Drive support and now the Facebook-owned company is planning to add an Instagram’s Nametag feature-like feature to its app called the Share Contact Info via QR feature.
As the name suggests, the feature will allow WhatsApp users to add a new contact by simply scanning the QR code of that person’s WhatsApp. The feature rings the bell of Instagram’s Nametag feature in mind. Nametag feature allowed users to connect with one another by scanning the unique username.
WhatsApp plans to have a similar scannable feature which will make it easier to connect with other users. WABetaInfo, the fan site of WhatsApp, has shared screenshots to help better understand the feature.
Going by the screenshots, we understand that WhatsApp will generate a unique QR code for every user which they can show to each other to connect. Once the chat app scans the QR code it will automatically detect all the related information, fill the required fields and save that contact in the address book. You don’t have to type anything to save the contact. Everything will be done by the app automatically. Reportedly, the chat app will also add the ability to revoke your QR code.
WhatsApp is separately also working on to improve its recently launched Stickers feature. The feature allows users to send stickers to their friends in addition to the GIFs and emojis that are already available in the chat. Stickers are available for both iOS and Android users. The feature also supports third-party stickers which can be downloaded from the Pay Store or App store. Users can also create stickers out of any picture using these third-party apps.
WhatsApp has also announced that all the chats and data will no longer count against your Google Drove storage limit. This means you can save all your WhatsApp backup files on the drive without having to worry about the storage consumption. In addition, WhatsApp will delete user’s entire WhatsApp data that has not been updated in the last one year. The last date for updation, as announced before, was November 12. The backup files can be created both manually and automatically.
