The shutdown of Allo and focus on Messages app is part of Google’s aim to focus toward a simpler communications experience and also better the SMS experience on phones.
Google has announced to shut down its Allo messaging app and focus on its Messages app. The company in a blog post said that the app will continue working through March 2019 with users having the option to export their chat history.
While the official confirmation comes now, the company had already stopped investing in Allo back in April hinting that it would soon bring a replacement to the app. The company had then said that the app as a whole failed to achieve the level of traction that company had hoped for.
Currently, the main focus of Google is on the Messages. It has already received some of the key features of Allo like Smart Reply, GIFs and desktop support.
