The third time was the charm for Ty Law.
The former Michigan All-American defensive back and three-time Super Bowl champion had his name put in football history forever Saturday when he was voted in as a member of the 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.
Law — who was a finalist for the third time in his five years of eligibility — becomes the ninth person with Michigan ties to enter the prestigious Hall of Fame, joining coach George Allen, offensive lineman Dan Dierdorf, defensive lineman Len Ford, quarterback Benny Friedman, end/fullback Bill Hewitt, halfback Elroy Hirsch, offensive lineman Tom Mack and team owner Ralph Wilson, Jr.
Former Michigan offensive lineman Steven Hutchinson was also in the top 15 as a modern-era finalist this year but will have to wait at least another year to get the call.
The other modern-era inductees selected Saturday were tight end Tony Gonzalez, safety Ed Reed, center Kevin Mawae and cornerback Champ Bailey. Gonzalez, Reed and Bailey were picked in their first year of eligibility.
One senior finalist, safety Johnny Robinson, and two contributor finalists, Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and former Dallas Cowboys executive Gil Brandt, also made the cut to join the class.
