Flores, who stepped into a play-calling role after Matt Patricia left for Detroit, helped guide a unit that flourished down the stretch and ultimately ended the season with a legendary performance against the No. 11 scoring offense in league history.
And following the Patriots’ 13-3 victory against the Rams, Flores officially took his talents to Miami Gardens.
Flores, 37, was introduced as the head coach of the Dolphins Monday afternoon.
“What we were looking for was a leader, as opposed to a lot of other teams looking for offensive coaches because of the success of Sean McVay and other great offensive minds,” Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said. “But, to me, you start an organization by finding a great leader. And I’m really thrilled to say I believe we’ve found that leader that can take us into the future.”
Flores reflected on how his 15 years in New England prepared him for his first head coaching job. He was hired by the Patriots right out of college, and he worked on the scouting side before flipping over to coaching and handling special teams, safeties, linebackers, and eventually the entire defense.
“I think I’ve had a lot of experience in a lot of different areas of football organizations,” Flores said. “I feel like I’ve made an impact, and my overall philosophy is to help my players, help my coaches, help anyone I’m around become the best version of themselves. I think I’ve done that. I think I want to do that on a grander scale. I think I can do that on a grander scale. And hopefully we’ll get that done here.
