After the EU’s announcement Google’s senior vice president of global affairs Kent Walker said that Google will make certain changes to its products.
The European Commission on Wednesday fined Google with 1.49 billion for breaching the European Union’s (EU) anti-trust laws and abusing its market dominance by adding a number of restrictive clauses in its contracts with companies, which prevented Google’s rivals from placing their ads on these websites. This is the third fine that has been that has been imposed on the Mountain View, California based company since 2017 when a fine of 2.42 billion ($2.7 billion) was imposed on the company for manipulating its search algorithm and a fine of 4.3 billion ($5 billion) was imposed on the company for violations regarding its Android operating system.
Announcing the record-breaking fine EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said that the fine has been levied on the company as it «illegally misused its dominant position in the market for the brokering of online search adverts.
