The Samsung Galaxy A70 offers a beautiful large Super AMOLED display and a long-lasting battery life for a price of Rs 28,990. In our Galaxy A70 review, we find out if these features are good enough against the competition.
Samsung has launched about a dozen smartphone in India in just a span of four months. These phones range from entry-level to the absolute premium in a bid to offer a Samsung phone in every price segment. The bulk of the phones lie in the Galaxy A series as Samsung has launched the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50 in the country. And a few days ago, Samsung added the Galaxy A70 to the list as well.
The Galaxy A70 is currently the most premium Galaxy A-series phone in India as Samsung is yet to launch the Galaxy A80. Priced at Rs 28,990, the Galaxy A70 is one of the biggest Samsung phones you’ll find thanks to its large 6.7-inch AMOLED display and 4,500mAh battery. It also comes with a capable Snapdragon 675 chipset and a triple camera setup, among other things. But is that enough to justify its price tag in an exceedingly competitive market? Read our Galaxy A70 review to find out.
The Galaxy A70 is like a larger version of the Galaxy A50. Both the phones look pretty identical thanks to a bezel-less waterdrop display on the front and a curved glasstic rear panel. So, the design is pretty generic and commonplace now, but it is convenient and good-looking nevertheless.
The front of the Galaxy A70 is mostly all display and there is plenty of it. Samsung has done well to reduce the bezels all around the screen, including making the chin really thin, to offer a wonderfully large and immersive display that you won’t be able to take your eyes off of.
The 3D curved rear panel makes the device comfortable to hold, which is really helpful considering this is a tall and broad phone. Despite its large size, the phone is surprisingly lightweight at 183 grams making it easy to hold for a long time. The back is clean and minimal with just the Samsung branding and a triple camera-plus-LED setup.
Samsung is offering the Galaxy A70 in Black, Blue, Coral and White colours. The colours have a slight gradient, prism effect so you’ll notice rainbow-like colours when looking at it from certain angles under light. The black-coloured unit we received is actually greyish and similar to the Galaxy A50. Samsung is using a good quality plastic panel that looks glass-like. It won’t scratch too quickly but it will register fingerprints and smudges.
For a phone this big, Samsung has paid close attention to its ergonomics as well. Rather than placing the power button high up on the side of the frame, it sits comfortably near the middle, allowing you to reach for more naturally. However, you will may have to readjust your hand to reach the volume buttons as they are a little higher up.
I am pleased to see a triple card slot for two Nano SIM cards and a microSD card. Samsung has also kept the 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom next to the Type-C port. You also get a single speaker grille on the bottom.
The Galaxy A70 offers a display for media junkies. At 6.7 inches, this is one of the largest displays you’ll find south of Rs 30,000. In addition to a tall display, you’re also getting the assurance of a quality Super AMOLED panel. The Galaxy A70 uses an Infinity-U display with a waterdrop notch to house the selfie camera. Only with such a large display, you’ll hardly get distracted by the notch and so you’re left with a stunningly immersive widescreen experience.
The display offers a FHD+ (2400×1080) resolution which is sharp and clear. The panel is quintessential Samsung with vibrant, saturated colours and deep blacks. It looks as though the display is stuck to the glass on top, offering great viewing angles. Brightness levels are adequate, so you won’t have trouble look at the screen under harsh sunlight.
I had a lot of fun streaming shows on Netflix and Prime Video and playing a lot of games on the Galaxy A70 big display.
