NEW YORK — The Met Gala red carpet looks a whole lot bigger on TV.
Up close and personal, the sprawling stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night were encased in a tented structure, with photographers and journalists stationed in cramped barricades on either side of the entrance.
Behind the scenes, reporters frantically try to get on WiFi and squeeze into their spots to get their eyes on the arrivals.
When the stars get there, the first hint comes from the roar of the crowd gathered across the street – behind police roadblocks – to catch glimpses of the action.

The Vogue editor-in-chief kicked off the A-list entrances and then quietly waited at the top of the stairs for the Gaga show. Lady Gaga, one of the event’s hosts, teased the press by walking up the stairs and then turning around, returning to the bottom of the carpet to reveal the dress beneath her pink puffy frock.
