The Senate on Thursday failed in its attempt to rein in President Donald Trump’s ability to wage war with Iran, after lawmakers came up short in a vote to override his veto of war powers legislation.
The vote failed 49-44, below the two-thirds majority needed to overcome a presidential veto.

The resolution is the first Iran-related measure to reach Trump’s desk after numerous attempts to restrict his war-making authority.
