Protests in Detroit following the death of George Floyd are to continue for a 12th straight night Tuesday, with marchers getting an update from organizers about a meeting earlier in the day with Mayor Mike Duggan.
The march comes on the same day as the funeral for Floyd, who died two weeks ago in Minneapolis after a police officer kneeled on his neck. Hundreds have been gathering each night to protest police violence against African-Americans. An 8 p.m. curfew was lifted because protests In Detroit have been peaceful.

Tuesday’s march comes after a powerful rally Monday at the site of the former Algiers Motel on Woodward Avenue, where three black teenagers were killed in late July 1967. Three Detroit police officers were acquitted in their deaths.
S. Baxter Jones, known as Baba Baxter, who uses a wheelchair, tells marchers they are a family, of sorts, and «this is a marathon, this is not a sprint.»
He says they heard an argument, a spat. And it’s probably not gonna be the last one they’ll hear. But he tells them to remember, «keep your eyes on the prize.»
He reminds them «we are making history.»
«All of us are gonna change this world, because it needs to be changed,» he says. «Peace and love and let’s do this thing.»
Underwood and Meeko Williams take the mic and reiterate that Tristan Taylor is not the organizer.
«I come down here and my heart is heavy. Detroit solidarity has been broken,» Williams tells the crowd, eventually pulling out a small bat.
