If drive-in shows are the future of live music, then we may just keep our cars at home.
On Tuesday, tour promoter Live Nation announced its first-ever drive-in concert series, launching next month with country singers Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker and Jon Pardi. The three-day, nine-show event will take place in the parking lots of amphitheaters, where concertgoers will have two parking spaces between each vehicle to tailgate and watch their favorite artists play from a distance.
Garth Brooks announced a similar event this coming Saturday, when he will broadcast a one-night drive-in concert to 300 outdoor theaters nationwide, with tickets priced at a hefty $100 per car. The country superstar is taking a cue from Keith Urban and DJ D-Nice, who were among the first major artists to play pop-up shows at drive-ins amid the coronavirus pandemic.
