It’s hitting the same area battered by Hurricane Laura.
Hurricane Delta has made landfall in southwestern Louisiana, setting a new record as the 10th named storm to hit the U.S. coastline in a single year, and the second in just a matter of weeks to hit southwestern Louisiana, which was devastated by Hurricane Laura. Hurricane Laura made landfall in the same area as Delta on Aug.27, and it was a much stronger storm. Laura hit with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph, making it the strongest storm in terms of wind speed to hit Louisiana since at least 1856. Unlike Laura, which reached peak intensity at landfall, Delta weakened some just as it approached Louisiana, due to increased wind shear and cooler waters near the coast.
