Peers and admirers from the music community took to social media on Tuesday to express their grief about the loss of the legend.
As fans come to terms with the sad news that guitar icon Eddie Van Halen lost his long battle with cancer, an outpouring of remembrances, wishes to his family and statements of love from fellow musicians have flooded social media. The responses came from fellow survivors of the notoriously decadent 1980s rock scene, like Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, who tweeted, «Crushed. So f**king crushed. RIP Eddie Van Halen. You changed our world. You were the Mozart of rock guitar. Travel safe rockstar.» Fellow rock bass god Gene Simmons wrote, «My heart is broken. Eddie was not only a Guitar God, but a genuinely beautiful soul. Rest in peace, Eddie!» Billy Idol offered a simple, «Rest in peace guitar legend Eddie Van Halen. We will miss you.» A slew of other musicians also acknowledged the passing of the music great.
