In classic Marvel fashion, the finale of The Mandalorian Season 2 ended with a post-credits sequence that… Uh, wait, hold on a second, The Mandalorian is actually Star Wars. Sorry, I always get my Disney properties mixed up. But anyway, there was a post-credits sequence at the end of “Chapter 16: The Rescue” with a huge, surprising tease. HUGE SPOILERS PAST THIS POINT, but what is The Book of Boba Fett, coming December 2021? And is it The Mandalorian Season 3, or something new? First, though, a little bit of explanation. After reintroducing the previously thought dead Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) in the Season 2 premiere, we’ve spent a lot more time with the bounty hunter than we ever did in the original Star Wars trilogy. He’s teamed up with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), who is also not dead, and even helped get Din on board Moff Gideon’s (Giancarlo Espostio) Imperial Light Cruiser in order to rescue Grogu. However, Boba pretty much peaced out of the episode after dropping off Din and his crew, meaning he didn’t get a rematch with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the man who was partially responsible for dumping him in the Sarlacc in the first place in Return of the Jedi; or R2-D2, who he might have a bone to pick with, as well. That doesn’t mean we saw the last of Boba, though — or classic, returning Star Wars characters, in general. In the post-credits sequence, we return to Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine. There, Jabba’s former second-in-command Bib Fortuna is holding court. Bib, by the way, is not played by Michael Carter as he was in RotJ. Instead, Bib is played by Matthew Wood, an Oscar nominated sound editor whose first credited acting role was in Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace, playing the voice of… Bib Fortuna.
