The SolarWinds hacks continue to cause alarm, with another American government department confirmed as a victim.
The Department of Justice has confirmed it was one of the U.S. government departments affected by the SolarWinds breach, which has quickly become one of the most significant cyberattacks in recent memory following its revelation in December. As Forbes had previously reported, the DOJ was a keen buyer of SolarWinds Orion, a tool that was turned malicious by hackers believed by the U.S. to be of Russian origin. (The Kremlin has denied involvement). Orion, an IT management software, was turned into a kind of spy tool between March and June last year, leading to as many as 18,000 SolarWinds customers possibly breached by the Trojanized application.
