After she was struck by the Ford F-250, fire rescue workers resuscitated Maria Elena Zeledon, 62, and took her to a hospital early Saturday, family members said.
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A woman was on life support Monday in a local hospital after she was hit by a truck that crashed through the walls of her home and struck her and her husband who were sleeping in bed around 1 a.m. Saturday, family members said. After she was struck by the black 2017 Ford F-250 that was hauling lawnmowers, Indian River County fire rescue workers resuscitated Maria Elena Zeledon,62, and took her to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, family members said. Christina Davis,39, said she and her husband Xavier Zeledon,47, lived in the home in the 200 block of 27th Avenue Southwest with Zeledon’s aunt, Maria Zeledon, and her husband, Alejandro Garcia,45. Garcia was flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Davis said. By Monday, Garcia had recovered from his injuries, family members said. Davis said although fire rescue workers were able to get Maria Zeledon’s heart re-started, doctors later said she had no brain activity.. A granddaughter of Zeledon, Jennifer Obando,19, said she learned of the crash around 6 a.m. Saturday from messages and missed calls from her family. Obando said her grandmother had lived in Indian River County since the 1990s and worked for roughly 15 years at The Moorings Yacht & Country Club. She said she was in good health before the crash.
