Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday publicly endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to replace Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as chair of the House Republican Conference, clearing the field for Stefanik and further solidifying Cheney’s expected ouster. First elected to the House in 2014 from a Republican-leaning district comprising most of New York’s rural “North Country,” Stefanik built a reputation as a moderate bridge-builder.
