As the COVID-19 pandemic continues its resurgence across the country, these charts and maps show the current state of the coronavirus in Iowa.
The COVID-19 pandemic has rebounded in Iowa during the past month as the delta variant spreads throughout the country, and weekly data reports from the Iowa Department of Public Health show the number of new cases and hospitalizations are growing at increasingly quicker rates. On Wednesday, Iowa was averaging more than 500 new reported cases per day, up from a recent low of 63 per day in the first week of July. There were 214 COVID-19 patients in Iowa hospitals on Thursday, up 36% from the week before, with further increases in the numbers of patients on ventilators and in intensive care units. Vaccination rates for COVID-19 are also rebounding, with the past week’s average number of doses administered reaching the highest it had been since early June.
