Patti Scialfa has inspired a famous lyric or two as the spouse of Bruce Springsteen. She also influenced an Olympic equestrian career. «When I saw her do it, I immediately wanted to do it,» Jessica Springsteen said on Friday at the Tokyo Olympics’ Equestrian Park. Springsteen remembers, as a young girl, her mother always wanting to ride horses. The family moved to New Jersey during Springsteen’s childhood, and that opened the door for Patti to begin taking lessons. «She was like my first riding idol,» said Springsteen, who qualified with her two U.S. jumping team teammates Friday for the team final the next night. «I used to watch her jump and be like, ‘Oh my God, she’s jumping so big. I’m never going to be able to do that.’ It’s really cool that it’s something we’re able to enjoy as a family.» That’s right, even «The Boss» and Springsteen’s two brothers occasionally hop on one of the Western horses that roam the farm and head out into the nearby woods. Even though Bruce Springsteen and his E-Street Band recently resumed their concert residency on Broadway, they paused during the Olympics to make sure they could be home to watch Jessica. «They’re sending me pictures in their USA gear; they’re cheering everyone on tonight,» she said. «They’re super-excited. «I’ve just been focused on what I’m doing and what I’m here for. I’ve been so grateful my parents have supported me throughout my career. They’ve been on this journey (with) me. It’s been a huge dream for them as well.
