Apple has decided to postpone plans for the rollout of a child safety feature that scanned hashes of iCloud Photos uploads in order to determine if users are storing child sex abuse material (CSAM).
Last month, Apple announced a new capability for iCloud through which it would scan the hashes of uploaded images and compare them to those of known images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). If a hit was determined, authorities would be involved in the matter. This system was a combination of automation and human moderation.
