The Senate may move to confirm President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee by mid-April, the chair of the body’s Judiciary Committee said Sunday.
The Senate may move to confirm President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee by mid-April, the chairman of the body’s Judiciary Committee said Sunday. “I can just say this: it’s going to be fair, it’s going to be deliberate and we’re going to be timely about it, too,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Sunday. Pressed for a time line, he alluded to the 27-day Supreme Court confirmation process for Amy Coney Barrett in 2020. Asked whether Easter would be a fair target date by which to confirm Biden’s as of yet unnamed nominee, Durbin replied: “Well, by the Amy Coney Barrett test, yes it is.” Last week, Biden said he would live up to a campaign promise of nominating the first Black woman to the Supreme Court if the opportunity arose.
