«Dancing with the Stars» is headed to streaming.
Disney ( DIS) announced Friday that the series, in which celebrities compete to be named the best ballroom dancer, will exclusively air on Disney+ in the US and Canada starting in the fall. It’s the first live series to debut on the streaming service, and it will no longer appear on ABC. Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, cited «the show’s broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights,» saying the move will help Disney+ «expand our demographic reach.» «Dancing with the Stars» premiered in 2005 on Disney-owned network ABC, and since then it’s garnered a loyal following and solid viewership for 30 seasons.
