Shaktikanta Das was replying to questions about India’s trade with Russia and discussions between the two countries to set up a rupee-rouble payment mechanism.
The Reserve Bank of India will not go against the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by several countries, Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Friday, reported PTI. Das was responding to questions about India’s trade with Russia and discussions between the two countries to set up a rupee-rouble payment mechanism. RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar said since the Ukraine war has hurt trade and payments systems, the central bank has been holding discussions with all its stakeholders to find a solution to the disruptions. “And at the same time, we are sensitive to the economic sanctions,” he said. Bank’s governor, Das, clarified that no payment mechanism has been set up between New Delhi and Moscow.
