Musk says Twitter will remain free for casual users, but the Tesla CEO is looking for new ways to generate revenue from the social media platform.
Twitter under Elon Musk may no longer be entirely free for big brands and governments. On Tuesday, Musk signaled he’ll try to extract revenue from his $44 billion takeover of Twitter by requiring companies and governments to pay up in order to continue reaching their followers on the social media platform. “Twitter will always be free for casual users, but maybe a slight cost for commercial/government users,” he wrote in a tweet, later adding: “Some revenue is better than none.” If instituted, the fee requirement might annoy Twitter’s commercial and government users.
