The victim was a fifth-grade student at Summerfield Elementary School.
A 12-year-old boy died in a fire and his father and brother suffered burns trying to rescue him early this morning, officials said. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Malaki Christian Giles, a fifth-grade student at Summerfield Schools.
“It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that I share the tragic news of one of our elementary students,” said Scott Salow, superintendent of Summerfield Schools. “Earlier this morning we learned of the passing of Malaki Giles, a fifth-grade student at Summerfield Elementary School. There are no words to express the loss. Malaki touched the lives of so many people with his gentle spirit, kind heart and smile.
