A century-old cable suspension bridge 764-foot-long (232-meter) over the Machchu river in the Morbi district in the western Indian state of Gujarat in India collapsed into the water Sunday evening at around 18:40 (13:10 GMT. It could not handle the weight of the large crowd, as the Hindu Diwali festival season drew hundreds of people to the recently opened tourist attraction. The incident comes just days after the bridge was reopened following repairs.
