‘One’ delivers an inspiring message, works from a larger palette and paints a picture audiences haven’t seen before on the massive ‘World of Color’ canvas.
Any “World of Color” comes with a host of expectations that the massive water show will be bombastic, bold and over the top, but the new “One” at Disney California Adventure is quiet, subtle and mellow — and that’s the goal.
“It is a very different take on ‘World of Color,’” said Disney Live Entertainment Show Director Wendy Ruth. “It’s a very different vibe and hopefully leaves you with a sense of empowerment and with a sense of, ‘I could be the one. I could make a difference.’”
The new “World of Color — One” debuted last week at Disney California Adventure as part of the yearlong Disney100 event celebrating 100 years of Disney animation. “One” debuted to less than stellar reviews in part because of high winds and equally high expectations during press previews.
The new “Wondrous Journeys” fireworks show across the esplanade at Disneyland highlights every one of the 60-plus Disney animation movies of the past 100 years. “Wondrous” is everything a Disneyland fireworks show is meant to be — as well as everything you expect it to be.

“World of Color — One” is just the opposite. It’s vulnerable, contemplative and thoughtful — words you typically don’t associate with a Disney nighttime spectacular. In a word, “One” is unexpected.
Disney Live Entertainment set out for “World of Color — One” to be inspirational rather than a high-energy show, according to Ruth.
“We had lots of conversations about how to bring the audience in,” Ruth said during an interview on the shores of Paradise Bay. “We know our audience loves to sing and dance when they come to ‘World of Color.
