Former Seattle SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp was charged with first-degree assault on Friday, per the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The 53-year-old ex-superstar was initially booked for a drive-by shooting back on March 8, but Kemp didn’t receive the new first-degree assault charge until Friday.
Kemp allegedly fired a gun in a Tacoma shopping mall parking lot while trying to recover stolen property.
Kemp claims the act was in self-defense.
No one was injured during the incident.
His lawyer Scott Boatman told ESPN through a statement that the six-time All-Star will enter a not-guilty plea for an upcoming arraignment, which will be on May 4.
