Super Mario RPG may be focused on telling a new tale in the Mushroom Kingdom, but it also feels like the perfect template for a crossover.
Super Mario RPG has once again whisked players away to the Mushroom Kingdom for another riveting journey. This time, Mario and his allies must stop the Smithy Gang from taking over the world. What ensues is a wild adventure filled with fun characters, unique RPG mechanics, and all of that classic Mario goodness fans have come to expect. And since it works out so well, Nintendo should consider doing even more things with the Super Mario RPG concept.
Specifically, Nintendo should take the Super Mario RPG concept to the next level by opening it up to more franchises. The adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom is fun, but what could make the experience even better is if it was a crossover. While Mario has a history of crossing over with all sorts of different franchises, the perfect one to join the fray may be Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Both mascots have crossed over in the past and have RPG experience, so they feel perfectly matched for a new RPG adventure throughout the cosmos. Super Mario RPG Feels Like the Perfect Place for Crossovers
The original Super Mario RPG showed audiences that the unlikely pairing of Mario and the RPG genre works. It worked so well that fans and critics fell in love with the concept, so Nintendo ended up taking it even further with Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi.
