One of the wealthiest members of Congress, Phillips endorsed incumbent President Joe Biden after running a long-shot bid to replace him as Democratic nominee.

Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., announced Wednesday he is suspending his presidential campaign following a poor performance—including in his home state—in Super Tuesday primaries, ending a long shot campaign by the Minnesota liquor titan worth $50 million that focused partly on President Joe Biden’s age.Key Facts

In a statement posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, Phillips thanked his supporters and said he will continue work to “ensure a more responsive, democratic, and generationally diverse political system.”

Phillips went on to endorse Biden, saying “But today, in light of the stark reality we face, I ask you join me in mobilizing, energizing, and doing everything you can to help keep a man of decency and integrity in the White House.”

Biden defeated Phillips—who only received 8% of the vote—in his home state Minnesota during its Super Tuesday primary, in a series of defeats which led to Phillips tweeting (in apparent jest of his poor showing): “Congratulations to Joe Biden, Uncommitted, Marianne Williamson, and Nikki Haley for demonstrating more appeal to Democratic Party loyalists than me.
