Apple is looking to boost iPhone sales by embracing AI, designing its own large language model than runs on device.
Apple is banking on AI running on iPhones to get sales out of the doldrums, according to Bloomberg’s Marc Gurman. Gurman says that even though the market is growing, the iPhone will see a 10% decline in sales for the first three months of 2024. It’s because of this difficult business environment that Apple will be making the push for AI on iPhone.
As part of this effort the company has been working on its own large language model (LLM). According to Gurman, “all indications suggest that it will be entirely on-device.” There are several advantages to this design decision.
