The fifth “Matrix” movie will be directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Drew Goddard (“The Martian”), marking the first time a movie from the franchise won’t be directed by Lana or Lily Wachowski.
The new movie will be executive produced by Lana Wachowski and bring a new perspective to the series while staying true to its first set of movies released in the late 90s and early 2000s, Warner Bros told Forbes in a statement.
“The Matrix Resurrections,” released in late 2021, brought back Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as main characters nearly 20 years after the last movie and received mixed reception from critics and audiences alike, scoring a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
