North Carolina politicians have had mixed reactions to the verdict Thursday. Here are some of their responses
A jury found former President Donald Trump guilty Thursday of 34 counts of first-degree falsifying business records — a felony in New York.
The jury found that Trump had attempted illegally to influence the 2016 presidential election — which he won — by making «hush money» payments to a porn actor who said she had sex with him. The jury deliberated for two days.
The convictions Thursday make Trump the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a felony. He’s the presumed nominee for the Republican Party for the presidential election this fall. Party delegates will make their nomination at the party convention in July.
President Joe Biden is the presumed nominee once again for the Democratic Party.
The judge in the case hasn’t sentenced Trump yet. Trump can still appeal, and he can still run for president.
