Before teeing off at the 13th hole during the third round of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 on Saturday, DeChambeau said he would “love to go for this green.”
Spectators erupted with excitement as DeChambeau prepared to hit his shot.
“Yeah you would!” one spectator shouted back.
DeChambeau acknowledged his audience as he chose his club.
“Don’t boo me, I’m sorry,” DeChambeau said, choosing to play the safe bet.
DeChambeau’s candor sparked laughter, not boos, from the crowd.
Unfortunately, DeChambeau missed the fairway on this shot.
