Two years ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade, which protected a pregnant woman’s right to choose to have an abortion.
Monday, June 24, 2024, marks the two-year anniversary since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and the two probable presidential candidates offered somewhat different messages on abortion rights.
On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court formally released a ruling that overturns the nearly 50-year-old decision of Roe v. Wade that protected a pregnant woman’s right to choose to have an abortion.
The decision overturned the 1973 ruling on Roe, which protected women who seek an abortion «without undue restrictive interference from the government», guaranteed under the Fourteenth Amendment. Planned Parenthood v. Casey from 1992, which mostly protected those same rights, is also repealed under the new ruling.
Since the reversal, President Joe Biden has continued to criticize former President Donald Trump over his support for the decision.
In a statement shared with Newsweek on Monday, Biden said: «Two years ago today, Donald Trump’s Supreme Court majority ripped away the fundamental freedom for women to access the health care they need and deserve.
