Alvin Bragg Made Wise Move In Agreeing to Postpone Trump Sentencing: Analyst

In response to Trump’s delay request, Alvin Bragg’s office said they would be open to a two-week delay in hush money sentencing.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg made a «judicious» move in agreeing to postpone former president Donald Trump’s sentencing in his criminal hush money case, according to legal analyst Shanlon Wu.
Trump is due to be sentenced on July 11 after a New York jury found him guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a case brought forward by Bragg, relating to a hush money payment made to adult film actor Stormy Daniels by Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Trump denied the charges and Daniels’ allegations that the two had an affair. He has vowed to appeal.
However, on Monday following the Supreme Court’s conservative majority ruling that said former presidents have immunity from prosecution for official acts but not unofficial or private actions, Trump’s lawyers asked judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the trial, to set aside Trump’s conviction, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling, according to a letter obtained by The Associated Press and The New York Times.
In addition, they asked Merchan to delay Trump’s sentencing while he considers the court’s decision and how it affects the New York case, according to the AP.
