Red Sox Star Suspended: How Team Responded to Homophobic Slur

The Boston Red Sox suspended their All-Star outfielder for two games after he was heard on the live broadcast of a game Sunday using a homophobic slur.
When a television microphone for the Boston Red Sox’s regional sports network, NESN, picked up outfielder Jarren Duran using a homophobic slur during Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros, a behind-the-scenes effort sprang forth in response.
By the time Duran met with reporters after the game Sunday, he was apologetic. The Red Sox echoed the apology in a written statement after the game. And by Monday, the decision had been made to suspend Duran for two games, effective immediately.
In the bottom of the sixth inning of the game at Fenway Park, a fan was heard yelling at Duran, «Tennis racket! Tennis racket! You need a tennis racket!»
Duran responded: «Shut up you f—ing f—-t.»

«During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan», the statement from Duran read.
