After an FIG ruling Saturday evening, U.S. Gymnast Jordan Chiles learned that she will likely lose her Olympic bronze medal to Romania’s Ana Barbosu – the deciding factor? Four seconds.
Breaking: As of Saturday evening, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has confirmed in a statement that “the results of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Floor Exercise Final on Monday 4 August 2024 are amended in accordance with [the CAS decision] as follows: the initial score of 13.666 given to Jordan Chiles (USA) is reinstated. The ranking of the Artistic Gymnastics Floor Exercise Finals has been modified accordingly with Ana Barbosu (ROU) ranking third with a score of 13.766.”
The ruling is set: Jordan Chiles’ bronze medal will likely go to Romania. On Thursday, Chiles was at Disneyland celebrating her Olympic success with two medals in tow. The FIG holds that the final gymnast in the final (Chiles) must submit any scoring inquiries within one minute of the official score’s posting.
